By completing and submitting these forms, or forwarding your data to the NMN Team and Bat Conservation Trust by any other method, you give permission to...
- Atropos and Butterfly Conservation to forward your records to your local vice-county moth recorder for verification, use your records and feedback to assist in writing an account of the event to be published in a future edition of Atropos and to contact you, if necessary, with respect to reasonable queries with your records.
- Bat Conservation Trust to use your records and feedback in their bat conservation work and to contact you, if necessary, with respect to reasonable queries with your records.
Please submit records of adults taken at night only. Daytime and non-adult records are not required.
If you are aged 16 or under, please ensure you have the permission of a parent or guardian before completing any forms.
RECORDING TEMPLATES
Microsoft Office Users: At the File Download dialogue
(if applicable), select Save to save the template to your hard drive.
Once the template is saved, open the template, enter your details
and records, re-save the template and submit it to the NMN team
as an attachment via the NMN Data Submission Form.
OpenOffice users with Microsoft Internet Explorer:
Right-click one of the links to download and "Save
Target As…" your choice of recording form. The download
process attempts to save OpenOffice files by default to a WinZIP
file. When prompted to "Save Target As…", change
the filename to NMN2010DataEntry.ODS for Calc and NMN2010DataEntry.ODT
for Writer before saving to your hard drive. Then complete, save
and submit the form as an attachment to the NMN team via the NMN
Data Submission Form.
OpenOffice users with Mozilla Firefox, Opera or Safari: Click the
file link of your choice, the Download Manager may prompt you to open the document with either Calc or Writer. Remember to save this
to a folder of your choice before entering your data.
In all cases, save and submit the form as an attachment to the
NMN team via the NMN Data Submission Form.
You can submit your results in the following ways-
- MapMate Users: 'Sync' your records to Centre 5vk and
submit the 'sync' file…
- via the NMN Data Submission Form as an attachment (preferred).
- online via the MapMate Web Server.
- Compile your records using one of our recording templates and
submitting the completed form…
- via the NMN Data Submission Form (preferred).
- as a file attachment via email to nmn@butterfly-conservation.org,
atropos.editor@zen.co.uk and pbriggs@bats.org.uk (if bat records are included)
- By entering your records using your own format design (see below)
and submitting the completed form…
- via the NMN Data Submission Form (preferred).
- as a file attachment via email to nmn@butterfly-conservation.org,
atropos.editor@zen.co.uk and pbriggs@bats.org.uk (if bat records are included)
- By letter post (moth records only) to: Les Hill, Dept. NMN, Butterfly Conservation,

- By letter post (bat records only) to: Philip Briggs, Dept. NMN, Bat Conservation Trust,

Please also ensure you include in your results details of any public
events including number of participants, which targets were specifically
looked for or recorded, all recording details and any anecdotal
notes and comments (all of which are covered in our templates and
submission form). Then send your records and details via email to
nmn@butterfly-conservation.org, atropos.editor@zen.co.uk and
pbriggs@bats.org.uk (if bat records are included).
We do, however, encourage all recorder to submit their data in a
clear, concise format which assists us manage your records efficiently.
An account of the event will be published by Atropos
If you take any photographs of National Moth Night activities or
moths recorded on the night, please e-mail to nmn.images@zen.co.uk
for possible publication in Atropos
or in a future update of this website.
